Whatever text I send to the Raspberry Pi B+ via minicom, the traffic on the line is dead, I've checked with scope. I've double checked the Raspberry Pi B+ setup, the wirings (triple checked with multimeter), the scope wirings and the serial communication is dead. The port on Raspberry Pi B+ is working, because I've hooked up scope on transmit pin of serial port (on Raspberry Pi B+ side) and if I send text from Raspberry Pi B+ (via minicom under ssh tunnel), I get activity on the scope.

I'm trying to instal an HL340 USB to serial cable on a Xp Media Center OS. I've used these cables a hundred times before, and usually once plugged in it will come up in the device manager under COM and LPT ports.
I'd then install the HL340 driver that comes with the cable and it would work. Thing is, with this computer I'm trying to use it on now, it's coming up in the device manager as USB2.0-Ser!, and there's no driver I can find that will work. I've taken the cable and plugged it into another computer running Xp Home and it comes up like it should (COM and LPT ports) and works great. I know it's not a bad cable. Please update all your Toshiba drivers from your Toshiba support pageYou may also want to download the Manual and confirm USB2 exists on any/all portsI usually do a Windows update (Custom) as well to confirm all drivers are up to datePlus it is wise to confirm all Service Packs and security Updates are completeIt also could be a Virus/Trojan causing this issue, so you may wish to do a full scanLastly check in CMOS (usually DEL or some other keypress on system startup to get into CMOS setup) Check all USBs are enabled, there may be other options on your USB settings as well.
I ended up solving my issue. I found an alternate driver for the HL340 that had an uninstall option within the application. I uninstalled the driver while the cable was still plugged in, then removed the cable and reinstalled the driver. Once this was done I plugged the cable back in and it came up HL340 in the device manager instead of USB2.0-Ser!
The found new hardware wizard still came up, the drivers finished loading automatically and it was good to go. It's just weird because using the exact same cable I never had to do that before. Issue resolved. Thanks for the help once again Kimsland!
HL-340 drivers!Went into Device Manager and found the VID/PID for my cable (1A86:7523). Searched and searched and found it was a HL-340 device.Found working drivers for HL-340 on WinChipHead.com. It's Chinese but following the various links I found the download page. I found a PDF for the CH340, but only found a driver link for CH341. Downloaded, installed and VOILA!
My HL-340 USB-Serial adapter now works using the CH341 drivers.Winchiphead.com/index.htmDrivers - winchiphead.com/download/CH341/CH341SER.ZIP. HL-340 drivers for Vista 64HL-340 drivers: winchiphead.com/download/CH341/CH341SER.ZIPThanks KimslandI am a complete novice so please forgive my naivity. I downloaded your file to my desktop, it appeared as a type of blank read file, no exe.
I installed Winzip as I use Winrar, just in case that was the problem but still same. How do I open the file?I am running Vista 64 and cannot use the usb-serial adapter as mentioned in previous comments.I purchased it from Amazon, they sent me a disc with the driver on, but it doesn`t work, I think it`s because I`m using Vista 64.Many thanks for your patience.
Thanks KimslandI downloaded it again, played around a bit (as you do) and finally got it. I had to decompress it twice so to speak, Unzipped your file, which left the file I mentioned earlier, When I tried to open that, windows asked which programme to use (could not browse to winrar for love nor money) so opened winrar prog` browsed winrar to desktop, found the ch341ser file (unzipped) and unzipped again, there were the drivers etc, as you mentioned.(a bit long winded I know)Thank you again for your help.
Firstly regards the crash make sure you installed the 1.3 version of the driver, not the old one. You could download it directly from the Manufacturers Website in case they have issued an update since I wrote this page.
Este Cable Conversor USB a RS232 Serial, crea un puerto COM virtual en su computador y así poder realizar la comunicación serial entre dispositivos con protocolo RS232 y el puerto USB de la computadora.
Just a hint: In most cases when you add a driver you simply need to add a module and not change the kernel itself. Once you go down the road of changing the whole kernel you have to find a starting config which basically matches the running system, and then install both the kernel and the entire module directory tree.
Hi,I am trying to connect a GPS with my TX2 through a HL340 USB serial adapter. THe GPS came with a DB9 connector and I used a DB9 to USB connector to connect it with TX2. When connected, I was getting faulty output on the serial monitor. Please refer to the link below which directs to the issue.

Recommendation: For most Windows users, we highly recommend using a driver update utility such as DriverDoc [Download DriverDoc - Product by Solvusoft] to help update Nanjing Qinheng Electronics Co USB drivers. DriverDoc takes away the hassle and headaches of making sure you are downloading and installing the correct HL 340's drivers for your operating system.
Error messages associated with HL 340 might be caused by inefficient or outdated device drivers. Device drivers can malfunction without warning, leading to data loss. There is hope for USB users because they can usually solve the problem by updating their device drivers.
It can seem impossible to find the right HL 340 driver directly on the Nanjing Qinheng Electronics Co's or related manufacturer's website for your USB. However, even if you are good at locating, installing, and upgrading drivers for the HL 340, one can still waste lots of time and be very frustrated with this endeavor. You can only make your problems worse if you install the wrong driver for your hardware.
For the time and effort involved in the driver update process, we highly suggest using driver utility software. A driver update tool makes sure that the computer's operating system drivers are up to date and are correctly suited to the hardware in your system. Driver backups offer an instant, secure way to restore a driver to an earlier configuration, if needed.
Gold-plated contacts and rugged construction combine to offer a reliable connection between the computer and serial peripherals for consistent, trouble-free performance. Windows compatibility with plug-and-play installation and hot-swappability help provide seamless use without inconvenient and frustrating device conflicts.
